Canada’s future to be decided October 19, 2015 after only 11 weeks of campaigning in Canada!

On October 19, 2015 the election will be for 338 seats in the House of Commons, a gain of 30 because of the increase of the Canadian population, and 170 will be needed for a clear majority. None of the three major parties are expected to gain that many seats. At eleven weeks, the campaign will be the longest in modern Canadian history. The Prime Minister will be the leader of the party that forms, what is expected to be, a minority government.

Canadian elections, set for Monday October 19, 2015, created a period of 73 days of campaigning between various parties, including three of the parties in contention, Liberal (Lib) Progressive Conservative Party (PCP) and the New Democrat Party (NDP). Recent polling reveal gains by the Liberal party headed by Justin Trudeau, while the Conservative party has suffered losses in Ontario to the Liberal party. The gains for the Liberal party have placed this party in contention with the NDP, to head a minority government as no one expects any of the three contending parties to gain a majority of the seats in the House of Commons.

In the last election, the Liberal party gained only 36 seats and some predicted that the Liberal party would disappear. It is difficult to think of the Liberal party not existing when Canada is a unified country today because of the great years, especially in the 1950’s.

Canadian polls are indicating that the Liberal party is currently far from being in last place and many voters are now undecided between the Liberal Party and the NDP in several sections of Canada, including Quebec .

There is an anti-establishment movement in both Canada and the United States. It is reflected in the US by the polls showing Donald Trump leading all Republican candidates in the presidential elections of 2016, (16 or 17 Republican candidates at this time). The current feeling is that the politicians in office are not interested in helping the middle class and are too influenced by lobbyists and other special interest groups donating to the political parties. Good paying jobs are being shipped overseas as US corporations are opening manufacturing plants in Mexico, China and other countries instead of in the United States. The big difference is that we will have to wait over one more year to see who is elected President of the United States in 2016.

If Canadians are tired of a 73 day campaign, try listening to American politicians campaigning for over two years!
