More than 11,000 acres of land have been consumed by a devastating wildfire in the Everglades, fueled by drought and strong winds last Sunday. The fire is now 100 percent contained. Another blaze, nicknamed “Max Road Fire,” burned in western Broward County, west of U.S. 27 and Pines Boulevard. It is now contained and under control.
In Florida City, the fire known as “172nd Avenue Fire” is 80 percent contained as of Thursday, May 14. It reportedly burned about 315 acres.
Authorities urge continued caution due to ongoing drought conditions. Residents should avoid outdoor barbecues and yard‑waste burning. People with respiratory risks are advised to check air‑quality reports before going outside.
