A new marina to replace the Seaquarium?
A marina capable of accommodating mega-yachts and luxury boats could replace the Seaquarium on Virginia Key in Miami. This is according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, which reports that “Miami-Dade County has quietly filed an application with state regulatory authorities to create a new marina on the decommissioned Seaquarium site.”
Environmentalists and kayakers oppose the idea, as the marina would be nestled in the heart of a concentration of endangered seagrass beds, as well as the wildlife living on the bay floor. Additionally, the coral in the area could be damaged.
What concerns some people? The size of the boats the marina would attract… Others believe that developing the bay would be a better legacy for the now-closed Seaquarium.
In addition to the Seaquarium marina, two other marina projects on Virginia Key are under consideration but will require voter approval.
Water Quality Advisory
According to a public health advisory, three beaches in Miami-Dade County have fecal matter levels too high for swimming. Due to an advisory regarding the presence of enterococci bacteria, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) recommends that swimmers avoid swimming at the following three locations:
· North Shore Ocean Terrace, near 73rd Street in Miami Beach;
Bark Beach, near 79th Street;
· And Golden Beach, in northern Miami-Dade County, near the border between Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Brightline Reintroduces Passes for Regular Riders
Brightline has been successful on its route connecting Miami to Orlando in central Florida, but service on the Fort Lauderdale–West Palm Beach route has been lacking. As part of its latest initiative to build loyalty among a key base of regular customers among regional travelers in Southeast Florida, Brightline has reintroduced a multi-trip pass between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
According to a press release issued by the company, the passes are as follows:
A 10-trip SMART pass for $239.
A 20-trip pass for $319.
A 40-trip pass for $359.
