FLORIDA, THE #1 STATE FOR BUSINESS IN 2025
For the past 19 years, CNBC has ranked the 50 US states to determine which is the most business-friendly (#1 for Business). This year, Florida ranks third, behind North Carolina and Texas.
To compile this ranking, CNBC analyzes the health of a state’s economy, the most important criterion among 135 other indicators, divided into ten categories, such as infrastructure, workforce, cost of doing business, quality of life, and more.
Florida excels in economy, but that’s not all: as the state with the best economy in the US, the Sunshine State also offers a high-quality workforce (ranked 2nd), good infrastructure (ranked 16th), an overall high quality of life (ranked 22nd) and a business-friendly climate (No. 23).
PEMBROKE PINES: PLANE CRASHES IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD
The accident occurred on Sunday, July 13, at 8:30 p.m. The small Cessna T337G was approaching North Perry Airport, located one mile (1.6 km) away, when it suddenly crashed near SW 14th Street and 86th Boulevard, fortunately without causing any casualties. The four passengers were also unharmed, despite minor injuries.
The pilot was a father accompanied by another adult and two minors aged 16 and 13. According to NBC Miami, the family was returning from a vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, but it appears that the plane struck a tree as it descended toward the runway. Local residents are concerned about the increasing number of plane crashes in the last five years.
DECREASE OF THE DANGEROUS BACTERIA VIBRIO VULNIFICUS
Four people have died this year in Florida from a flesh-eating bacteria found in warm brackish water, a significant decrease from the 82 cases and 19 deaths reported in 2024.
Florida is not the only place affected: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report 100 deaths from the bacteria each year in the country. Vibrio Vulnificus mainly attacks immunocompromised individuals (people undergoing chemotherapy, suffering from cirrhosis, or other conditions). As soon as the first symptoms appear (blisters, swelling, nausea, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and chills), medical attention should be sought, as the bacteria can then attack the flesh.
How can it be avoided? Do not swim with cuts or open wounds and avoid uncooked seafood. There is no evidence that the bacteria can be transmitted from person to person.
LEGAL BATTLE BETWEEN ALHAMBRA PLACE AND THE SELENE TWIN TOWERS
In Fort Lauderdale, the new Selene towers are set to open before the end of the year, but the story is far from over: their neighbor, the Alhambra Place tower, has just filed a lawsuit for obstruction of view.
More specifically, there is a discrepancy between the 3D drawings that were displayed during the initial presentation of the project by the Selene tower developers, The Kolter Group and KT Seabreeze Atlantic (since bankrupt), and the final building complex, which contains more concrete and less glass and columns, and balconies that encroach on the skyline.
The Selene twin towers, located at 3000 Alhambra St, each have 26 floors. They rise nearly 300 feet (91 m) into the sky, well above the usual 200-foot (61 m) limit, as local residents preferred a tall, slender tower to a low, wider building that would obstruct their view.
Alhambra Place is seeking $10 million in damages. Stay tuned for further developments.
