Broward Welcomes the World
Broward County aims to capitalize on the economic benefits of the FIFA World Cup. To that end, it has organized a six-week series of events, which kicked off in Lauderhill this Saturday, June 6. The coming weekends will feature free events in Hollywood, West Park, Lauderdale Lakes, and North Lauderdale. The county is home to large communities from the Caribbean and Haiti, who are excited about the sporting event.
Note that on June 27, Hollywood Boulevard will transform into a massive Watch Party for the England vs. Panama match at 5 p.m., followed by Colombia vs. Portugal at 7:30 p.m., and a live concert at 9:30 p.m. www.hollywoodfl.org
The Python Challenge is back
As it does every year, the challenge returns from July 10 to 19, with a $25,000 prize for the hunter who captures the most Burmese pythons, an invasive species that poses a serious threat to local wildlife. Last year, the winner helped remove 20 pythons from Florida’s ecosystem. In total, participants from 30 states and Canada captured 294 pythons.

Free Shuttles During the FIFA World Cup
Transporting fans on game nights will be a challenge for the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works. It has therefore set up a free service, the Miami Game Day Express shuttle, with four stops: Brightline Aventura Station, Martin Luther King Jr. Metrorail Station, Golden Glades Parking Garage, and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. More than 200 buses will be chartered on game nights. No registration is required, but you must have your game ticket to board the bus. For more information: miamifwc26.com
