EDITORIAL: THE BEAUTY OF AN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

Date:

I attended a Natbank cocktail party on February 2, and I must admit, it was such a pleasure to rub shoulders with such an internationally diverse community, right here in Florida. I felt privileged to be among all these people who had so much to share, whether in snippets or in longer, more intimate conversations.

Not only did I meet wonderful people from Montreal, fun-loving Quebecers visiting the area, other Canadians who have been in Florida longer, super friendly people from Haiti, kind French people, not to mention Americans at heart and people from other countries. What an international mix!

This is the demographic landscape of the Sunshine State that has fascinated me so much since I arrived in Florida. But it remains to be seen what will remain after the demographic decline that is already apparent… Flore Kayl reports on this on page 5.

Sylvain Bruneau also talks to you about the popularity of airports in North America: Orlando and Miami are among the busiest (page 7).

In this edition, we also talk about Kim’s Convenience, the Canadian play that was a hit on Netflix and is being produced in West Palm Beach by Montrealer Adam Blanshay, whom I had the chance to interview. Read about it on page 2.

Don’t miss our other source of international pride from Quebec: linesman Jonny Murray, who will be at the Olympic Games in Italy (see page 3).

And hope continues for the Haitian community in the U.S.! Read about it on page 8.

Talking about the world in a positive way doesn’t stop there. We hope that Canadians who have made the trip to Florida this year feel welcome in the Sunshine State. To that end, we would like to hear your opinion. Simply write to the editorial staff at info@LeSoleildelaFloride.com. We look forward to reading your comments and responding to them, if possible, through our publications.

The publications of Le Soleil de la Floride reach a variety of French-speaking nations in Florida and elsewhere. The entire team is very proud and honored.

And know that no matter where you are from, it is a real pleasure to count you among our community in the Sunshine State! So let’s continue to exchange ideas and discuss topics that affect, concern, and interest you.

Yours internationally!
