EDITORIAL: THE ART OF ESCAPING

Date:

With everything that is happening in the United States and around the world, one of the things that comes to mind is: how can we escape from it al

Florida is not only an ideal getaway for relaxing, enjoying the sun and beaches, and having fun thanks to all the places and activities it has to offer, but it is also an excellent starting point for other destinations.

From PortMiami, the “cruise capital of the world,” the most popular itineraries include the Eastern Caribbean (St. Thomas, St. Maarten), the Western Caribbean (Jamaica, Cozumel, Grand Cayman), and the Bahamas, which offer first-class relaxation and family-friendly adventures.

Port Canaveral (Cape Canaveral) and Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) are also popular for the same destinations, while Port Tampa Bay (Tampa) offers cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America, and JAXPORT (Jacksonville) to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The Port of Palm Beach (Riviera Beach) is well known for its short trips to the Bahamas.

Generally, cruises departing from Florida cost between $200 and over $1,000 per person for three- to seven-night itineraries, depending on the company and type of cabin. Luxury companies can exceed $4,000 to $9,000 per person.

There is also a unique cruise offered by Villa Vie Residences, a company based in Pembroke Pines, Florida, which offers a four-year travel package called “Skip Forward” designed as a multi-year itinerary around the world, notably to escape the American political climate since the end of 2024. The cost of the cruise, which covers more than 425 ports in 140 countries, starts at around $40,000 per person per year.

Fortunately, there are other destinations that are much more affordable and don’t require traveling to the other side of the world (page 13), allowing you to discover Florida and other nearby states.

Alternatively, why not enjoy a guided pontoon boat tour (page 13) or buy your own boat (pages 2, 15) to create your own pure escape?

The pages of this journal are also full of suggestions for restaurants, shows, and activities to help you get away in your own way (pages 5, 15, 21, 22-23, 25, 27, 35).
And for many people, sports are another great source of entertainment (pages 18, 19, 34).

Whatever your means of distraction, we hope that the pages of this magazine will be useful and inspiring in helping you escape to the Sunshine State and some of its most coveted and sought-after destinations.
