TRAVEL: POSITIVE OUTLOOK FROM SNOWBIRDS RETURNING TO FLORIDA

Date:

A Le Soleil de la Floride’s reader asked us to share positive perspectives on snowbirds returning to Florida this year despite the current situation. Here are the reasons why six people are coming back and what they appreciate about the Sunshine State.

Michel from Montreal completely disagrees with Form I-94, but his reason for returning is simple: « Snowbirds equals no winter. Having worked outdoors in bad weather throughout my career, I am now retired and a homeowner in Pompano Beach. He and his wife have enjoyed their condo in their « nice little town with all the amenities and improvements made by the city of Pompano, as well as the beautiful projects it has planned for the future » since 2012. Their complex is well-maintained. Even though the monthly fees have increased, they say, « We’re very happy here, so we’re going back in 2025. We just won’t pay US property fees without enjoying them. We’ll see what the future holds, but we really appreciate our winter home in the sun. »In a telephone interview, Pierre de Varennes said, “We are a small group of friends who own homes in Florida and play pickleball. The people in our community are really nice and don’t want us to leave.” Pierre and his wife pointed out that they know someone who voted for Trump and is unhappy with what is happening. He added that people even apologize and tell them, “We love you. »

Mr. and Mrs. de Lavaltrie told us, « We bought an annual pass for Disney last year, and it’s valid until December 2025. Our main goal is to enjoy it as much as possible.” They had also booked two Disney cruises for fall 2025. « The only difference from our original plan is that we won’t stay for the entire winter. We’ll go home after the second cruise.” Last year, they stayed in their trailer, but this year, they’ll be staying in a condo. “The main reasons for our getaway to Florida are our love for Disney and the fact that it’s an easy drive.”

An anonymous reader wrote to us: « It’s a must for me to go back to Florida because I sold my house. It was part of the purchase agreement that I would sublet my mobile home for the 2025–2026 season. After that, though, it’s over. »

Another anonymous reader said that, although he finds the 30-day rule unfortunate, they’re going back to Florida because they own property there. “As long as we feel at home, we’re going to stay. Florida is our first choice. »

Daniel from Repentigny has been living in Florida for the winter for 25 years. He replied: “First, I hate winter, the cold, and all the inconveniences it brings. Second, I have a company that owns a business in Hallandale Beach. Third, I have another company that owns apartments in Sunny Isles.” He concluded, ‘I can’t do without the Florida heat, my network of American and Canadian friends, or the pleasure of playing golf and pickleball.”
