A US$250 fee, called a visa integrity fee, has been introduced by the US government. However, it does not apply to the vast majority of Canadians.
Since Canadian citizens do not need a visa for tourist visits of less than six months, they are not affected by this new fee and can continue to cross the border as before.
« Rest assured that most Canadians will not be required to pay the new fee. This is because almost all Canadian citizens are visa-exempt when entering the U.S. for short stays, such as for vacations, business trips, shopping and more. A rule of thumb is that as long as no visa is required, the new visa integrity fee does not apply. » CANADIM.COM
Rosanna Berardi, associate director at Berardi Immigration Law in Buffalo, N.Y., told CTV News: « Ninety-nine percent of Canadian citizens are exempt from visas. … These individuals will not have to pay the new visa integrity fees unless they are investors or fiancés of U.S. citizens. «
