The FLIFF (Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival) will take place from February 20 to 28 and will feature local, national, and international screenings, including a Canadian documentary and a Canadian film.
The film festival, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, invites you to join filmmakers, stars, and film lovers from around the world for screenings, special events, galas, and the pure magic of cinema under the palm trees!
Here is a selection of the wide variety of films that will be presented.
Films from Canada
The Bear Inside Of A Whale is a Canadian documentary by director Kenneth J. Harvey, twice nominated for Canadian Screen Awards and the Giller Prize. It tells the story of Stan Hill Jr., a Haudenosaunee artist living on the Miawpukek First Nation reserve in Newfoundland. “He and his family discuss racism, identity, religion, creation and art, as well as the cultural extinction of the Beothuks of Newfoundland.” In English.

Wingman is a Canadian comedy by director and actor Harland, known worldwide for his hilarious film roles and extravagant sketches and stand-up routines. It tells the story of Turk, who is stuck in the 1980s and still wears leather and velvet. He is hired by Bob’s father, without Bob’s knowledge, to teach him how to seduce women. “Bob is at rock bottom, having lost his job and his wife, while his father is more successful than ever.” In English.

Upcoming films
The Florida Panthers and FLIFF present MR. GOALIE at the Baptist Health IcePlex Arena in Fort Lauderdale. The documentary tells the story of 94-year-old Glenn Hall, nicknamed “Mr. Goalie.” He was born in 1931 and was a goalie in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1955 to 1971. “Glenn Hall holds an unbeatable record of 552 consecutive games in goal, and he did it without wearing a face mask.”

The documentary Guy Harvey traces the journey, iconic works, and deep commitment of this marine biologist to protecting the oceans for future generations. Nova Southeastern University in Davie has a longstanding collaboration with Guy Harvey through its marine research institute. To highlight this partnership, in 2012 the university named its new oceanographic center after him.

The thriller Miami Nights tells the story of two demobilized soldiers, Mason and Lisa, who are struggling to return to normal life in Miami. They agree to escort a precious diamond, but a local godfather pushes Mason to consider a risky theft to settle his debts, win back his ex, and secure their future.

Made in Broward
Among the films “made in Broward County” are: Our Family Pride, a comedy-drama about a father who finally reveals his homosexuality after decades of silence; and The Python Hunt, about Florida’s annual competition to eliminate invasive pythons.
