The new air connection between Key West International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport will open in November 2025. According to the airline’s press release, it will be the only nonstop flight between the two cities. It will allow travelers to avoid the long, often congested drive to Key West.
Starting November 6, travelers will be able to take advantage of this route, which will initially operate only on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. From December 18, flights will run daily.
They will be lasting 50 minutes, and are already available for booking, with fares starting at $79 one-way.
Spirit Airlines, headquartered in Dania Beach, is still undergoing bankruptcy and restructuring, during which it is streamlining its operations. However, unlike its competitor JetBlue, Spirit has increased its flights in South Florida in 2025 — especially from Miami Airport — and aims to become one of the major air carriers operating from MIA.
