Since Friday, July 18 and through Friday, July 25, the National Weather Service has issued a high heat advisory for South Florida and along the I-95 corridor, extending up to Melbourne and Jacksonville. Temperatures are rising above 95˚F (35˚C) for several hours a day, and the heat index may feel up to 108˚F (42˚C) due to humidity.
It is advised to avoid any physical activity between noon and 6 p.m., especially for seniors, individuals with health conditions, and children. Also worth noting—the UV index is very high, so sunscreen and protective headwear are strongly recommended.
On the bright side, this high-pressure system will prevent storms and heavy rainfall from developing.
Sargassum Update:
Alert in Southeast Florida and the Keys, particularly this month, as the largest mass of sargassum ever recorded has already landed on beaches in Mexico and Puerto Rico back in June. Currents and wind will determine the precise location and scale of the impact.
