Under a new policy resulting from a 2022 law (SB 914: Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles), Floridians who have recently renewed or replaced their Florida driver’s license may also need to update their voter registration information.
Now, every renewed or replaced driver’s license is assigned a random identification number, a measure designed to enhance security against fraud and identity theft. Brad Ashwell, the Florida State Director for All Voting is Local, told WLRN:
“Voters need to know that they need to update their registration to include this new number, otherwise it could have consequences if they try to vote by mail or sign an election petition.” According to him, even though Floridians have the option to update their voter registration when they get their new license, many are unaware that they need to do so.
Floridians can update their information at https://registertovoteflorida.gov/home or call their local supervisor of elections at https://dos.elections.myflorida.com/supervisors.
