In South Florida, December 2025 was significantly warmer than usual, much to the delight of tourists enjoying the state’s beaches. The Palm Beach Post and CBS News report that many parts of Florida experienced temperatures several degrees above average (8 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit above normal), setting new daily records and leading to one of the warmest Decembers on record—before the arrival of a cold front at the end of the month!
Indeed, at the time of writing, a cold front is sweeping across the southern part of the state for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, causing temperatures to plummet from the mid-80s (29°C) to the mid-40s to 50s (7-10°C). Wind chill will also be a factor, making it feel even colder. Inland areas could even see temperatures drop to near freezing, making for cool and windy conditions over the holiday weekend. The good news? A gradual warming is already forecast for the weekend, with temperatures gradually rising to reach 70 to 79°F (21 to 26°C).
According to weather predictions from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, Florida is expected to experience a cooler-than-normal January 2026, with mostly sunny weather early in the month before isolated showers arrive from January 1 to 12. From January 13 to 25, scattered showers are expected, followed by sunny periods as temperatures gradually become milder. While the month is expected to end with rainy periods from January 26 to 31, temperatures will remain below average overall and total precipitation will be slightly below normal.
According to historical averages reported by the National Weather Service (weather.gov), which provides the most up-to-date short-term weather forecasts, for areas such as Fort Lauderdale, typical daily temperatures in January range from 61°F (16°C) at night to 75°F (24°C) during the day. The average sea temperature is 75°F (24°C), and you can normally expect about seven days of rain throughout the month.
