CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. CATHERINE CANO ON HER NOMINATION!

Date:

Ms. Catherine Cano, GCB.D, will become Québec’s Delegate in Miami on September 15.

Her appointment, ratified by the Cabinet, was proudly announced on LinkedIn by Martine Biron, Québec’s Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, and Minister responsible for the status of women:

“Since 2023, Ms. Cano has served as Québec’s representative to the Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO in Paris. She has had an outstanding career, notably as an executive at the International Organization of Francophonie, President and CEO of CPAC, and in various senior leadership roles in broadcasting and communications in Québec and internationally—including at Radio-Canada/CBC. […] She is also recognized for having led and managed several complex, high-stakes international files across Canada and Québec.”

A political science graduate from the University of Ottawa, Ms. Cano has been listed among the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Canada multiple times and has received numerous accolades, including the Michener Award.

She told Le Soleil de la Floride in writing:

“I’m truly honored by this appointment and thrilled to return to the United States after having lived there for 13 years. Québec and Florida enjoy a strong human and economic relationship. It is essential to protect and strengthen this bond. Trade between Florida and Québec has grown by 33% over the last five years. I’m excited to continue building our solid business partnership, foster collaboration, and focus on new opportunities.”

Welcome and congratulations to Ms. Catherine Cano!

AI FOR EDUCATION IN BROWARD COUNTY

As the new school year kicks off on August 11, students in Broward County will experience a new dimension in education: the integration of artificial intelligence in the classroom. Public schools in the county have partnered with Microsoft to launch an initiative bringing Microsoft Copilot—the company’s AI chatbot—into teaching, learning, and school operations.

According to district officials, this represents the world’s largest adoption of Copilot in K–12 education. District Executive Director of IT Operations, Manuel Castañeda, told WLRN: “As educators, we can’t be afraid of the pace of technology. We have to embrace it and we have to ensure that our students are prepared to embrace it as well.”

Following a ban on ChatGPT on district devices in 2023, Broward Schools established a dedicated task force to explore responsible AI integration in education.

Microsoft Copilot was chosen due to its compatibility with the Microsoft tools already in use across classrooms. A training program for teachers is underway, and safeguards are being put in place to prevent student plagiarism.

Meanwhile, family outreach efforts are ongoing to reassure parents and promote ethical AI adoption.
