SOUTH FLORIDA GETTING SAFER FOR RETURN OF CANADIAN TOURISM

Date:

Close to 4 million have already been vaccinated against the COVID-19 in Florida and the daily number of those being vaccinated is increasing with the efforts of the new Biden administration in Washington. Under President Joe Biden, the target is for most Americans to be vaccinated by the end of May of this year.

Each time Florida lowers the age requirement by five years, about 2 million more people become eligible for shots, the governor said. As of Wednesday March 17th, nearly 3.8 million people had been vaccinated in Florida, state data shows. More than 2.7 million, or about 72 percent, were 65 or older.

The supply of various vaccines is growing through the efforts of President Joe Biden. This past Monday, Florida opened coronavirus vaccinations to people 60 and up, and plans to vaccinate those 55 and older « relatively soon, » Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced.

After that, the state “probably could just open it up to the general public at that point,” DeSantis said, pointing out that Florida’s supply of doses from the federal government is growing, as is the Federal Pharmacy Program. The state had been receiving about 250,000 doses a week, and now it is receiving 400,000 or more per week, he said.

The priority in Florida for getting vaccinated is as follows:

Persons 60 years of age or older-Persons determined to be extremely vulnerable by a physician. -Health care workers with direct patient contact-resident of and staff of long term care facilities-persons deemed to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19  by hospital providers, sworn law enforcement officers 50 years of age or older, firefighters 50 years of age or older and K-12 school employees 50 years of age or older.

Those that refuse to be vaccinated (such as former president Trump supporters) are risking their lives as well as those of their family members and friends and the general public.  Former President Trump has not encouraged his supporters to be vaccinated before or after leaving office.

Canadians over the age of 65 have not had any problems in getting vaccinated in Florida if they own or rented a residence in Florida this year.
